Educate a Girl

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” –Nelson Mandela

Free and compulsory education to all children up to the age fourteen is constitutional commitment in India. The Parliament of India has passed Right to Education Act in 2009 through which education has become fundamental right of all children of age group 6-14 year.

Educating a girl is educating a Generation. Indira Charitable Trust connects girl children who are not able to continue with their education because of financial crunch with donors/volunteers who can support educational expenses.

FOOD FOR THE HUNGRY

“There are people in the world so hungry, that God cannot appear to them except in the form of bread.” – Mahatma Gandhi

According to statistics around 14.5% of our population is undernourished in India. Though India produces enough food to feed its population, it is unable to provide access to food, making India a home to the largest undernourished population of the world.

7 million people go hungry everyday

1 in 4 children malnourished

3,000 children in India die every day from poor diet related illness

We at Indira Charitable Trust, has started the initiative to help provide meals to men, women and children, who live their lives on the street without having access to a single meal for the day. Every weekend food is prepared, packed and distributed in and around greater Chennai area. With the blessings of the almighty and help from our brothers and sisters, feeding the hungry will be a global initiative.

MEDICINE FOR THE ILL

“Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.” – Hippocrates

In a world where people are deprived of food, getting access to medicine is a herculean task. Even for a family who tries hard to make ends meet, a medical emergency can cause tremendous emotional and financial stress for most families, which is exacerbated by increasing hospitalisation bills and medicine costs.

We call for volunteers who have surplus medical products which are unused, unexpired to donate them, which can be used to treat people with less access to medicinal facilities. We at Indira Charitable Trust try to bring in and connect with people to develop a medicine bank for the needy.

COVER THE NAKED

“Clothes make the man. Naked people have little or no influence on society.”
– Mark Twain

Giving away the things you loved is never easy. Ask yourself Do we really need all those clothes that get accumulated in our shelf space. If your answer is NO then, your clothing donations make a big difference to individuals who are struggling to have them covered.

We welcome all kinds of clothing donations. Donate a warm winter coat that you‘re not wearing anymore. Donate clothes that your children have outgrown. Donate maternity clothes. Donate baby clothes and other nursery essentials to help a young family provide a better start for their new born. Donate the clothes that always find their way to the back of your drawer.

ARISE OF TRIBAL

"We all have an interest in fighting against the inequalities that so many tribes and communities face"
- Barack Obama

In the heart of our diverse nation, tribal communities stand as the torchbearers of unique traditions and rich cultural heritage. It is our fervent belief that education serves as the key to unlocking a brighter future for every member of these esteemed tribes. By embracing the power of knowledge, individuals can not only preserve their cultural roots but also equip themselves with the skills needed to navigate the challenges of the modern world. Education empowers individuals to engage with mainstream society, fostering a bridge between tradition and progress. We encourage every tribal member to seize the opportunity for education, as it opens doors to a world of possibilities and ensures a legacy of resilience and prosperity for generations to come.

Moreover, we advocate for tribes to actively participate in government initiatives that provide essential support. Obtaining government-issued identification, securing reliable sources for food and clothing, and understanding the mechanisms of healthcare, sex education, and marriage registration are pivotal steps toward securing a better quality of life. By integrating into government frameworks, tribal communities can access the resources designed to uplift and safeguard their well-being. We, as an NGO, stand ready to assist and guide in this transformative journey, emphasizing that every tribal individual deserves to enjoy the benefits of education and governmental support, ensuring a future of dignity, health, and prosperity. Together, let us build a foundation where cultural heritage and modern progress harmoniously coexist.
